Does Mydex CIC have access to the personal data held in my PDS? How is the private key used to encrypt members data so that only the individual can decrypt it?

Short Answer

No. There is no way for Mydex CIC to access any data in an individual's personal data, and we don't want to. We, like anyone else connected to the Mydex Platform, are subject to a Data Sharing Agreement with our members even for providing the basic service for which we hold almost no information beyond MydexID, email address etc.

Technical Answer

The data inside a Personal Data Store is encrypted with the individual's private key, which must be provided every time you access your Personal Data Store, control any of your settings or make new connections. To ensure that you remain the data controller, fully in charge of your data, Mydex CIC does not store this key - so we cannot decrypt any data that has been encrypted with it. This also means Mydex CIC cannot reset your private key, so if you forget it you will not be able to use your Personal Data Store.
