What is the current situation with Mydex CIC and GOV.UK Verify?

Explain more about the status of Mydex CIC as a Identity Provider to the UK Government.

Short Answer

Identity providers have to be certified as meeting Government and industry-agreed protocols and standards. Mydex CIC is currently progressing through the certification and approvals process to go live and will join the public beta in due course. It is already ISO27001 company wide certified.

GOV.UK Verify, which is the public name of the service developed as part of the Government’s Identity Assurance Programme, moved to a public beta on 14th October 2014. This is part of the ongoing process of development and means that services connected to the GOV.UK Verify hub will be able to allow users to access their service without requiring an individual invitation. During the private beta there will more Government services and an increasing number of users. 

There are currently five providers contracted to deliver identity assurance services including Digidentity, Experian, Mydex CIC, Post Office and Verizon. Mydex CIC is currently progressing through the certification and approvals process to go live and will join the public beta in due course. 

Mydex CIC believe that identity assurance is just the beginning of a journey that will end with individuals not just in control of their digital identities but also a range of key personal data associated with them; verified data that is the basis for trusted transactions and online relationships throughout their lives.
